Ponce makes bilingualism an eligibility requirement, not a preference: all applicants to the Ponce main campus must be bilingual in English and Spanish to be eligible for the MD programme, because partner hospitals and clinics serve a predominantly Spanish-speaking population, and a Language Assessment Evaluation may be required. The mission is educating bilingual ethical professionals who deliver culturally competent care and generate research reducing health disparities in Puerto Rico and the US. Holistic review weighs extracurriculars showing cultural competence, community service and commitment to underserved populations.
Watch out: No Spanish means ineligible at the main campus regardless of everything else. Floors are a 2.7 cumulative and science GPA and a 494 MCAT within the first three attempts in the last five years, though admitted medians run higher near 3.67 and 499. Three letters are required, two from professors.
