UTMB states its rule plainly: academic and nonacademic factors are of equal importance. The committee weighs the health professions advisor or advisory committee recommendation, personal qualifications, academic profile, undergraduate coursework, grades, MCAT and CASPer together, so the situational-judgement test is a scored component rather than a formality and a committee letter is worth arranging. Research is not required but is valued equally alongside clinical experience and community service under the nonacademic half. Training physicians since 1881, with distinctive strength in disaster medicine and tropical disease from its coastal setting.

Watch out: Equal weighting means an exceptional GPA and MCAT can only ever carry half the file. Roughly 230 matriculate a year with no more than 10% from out of state. Applications and letters run June 1 to October 30 with rolling interviews from August, so late files compete for fewer remaining seats.
