Utah applies minimum MCAT and GPA requirements as a gate to the secondary, then runs a mission-aligned review of the whole application, using a matrix model that reads GPA and MCAT together rather than separately, so a lopsided pair can still clear where a single-number rule would not. Beyond academics the committee weighs community engagement, clinical experience and intellectual curiosity. The mission covers Utah and the wider Mountain West, and the WICHE Professional Student Exchange Program creates a defined route for applicants from participating states.
Watch out: WICHE PSEP funding must be applied for through the home state by October 15 of the year before matriculation, and Montana and Wyoming WICHE recipients are still treated as non-residents paying out-of-state tuition throughout. Missing the minimums means never reaching the holistic stage at all.
