Greenville is the first US medical school to build EMT training into the first year, with ambulance internship hours starting in the opening week, so applicants with prehospital or emergency experience arrive already matched to the curriculum and everyone else should expect hands-on patient contact from day one. The school says it selects applicants with distinctive personal attributes and lived experiences who bring added value to its learning community, aiming for a deliberately different first-year class, and names talents, resilience, dedication, leadership and compassion as what it wants. The admissions committee includes Prisma Health team members and community representatives, not only faculty.
Watch out: Candidates must meet stated capacity requirements covering intellectual capacity, physical ability, emotional and psychological stability, interpersonal sensitivity and communication. A conventional file with no distinctive lived experience runs against a school that says it is assembling a deliberately different class.
